Nigeria through to Women's Africa Cup of Nations quarter finals as group winners
Nigeria and Algeria played out a goalless draw in their final Women's Africa Cup of Nations Group B clash on Sunday.
Chelle, who currently manages Nigeria's senior national team, now takes on the additional responsibility of guiding the domestic-based side at CHAN, replacing Daniel Ogunmodede, who successfully oversaw the qualification campaign, CAF Online reported.
The Malian-born tactician steps into the role with little time to spare, as Nigeria face a tough Group D featuring defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo. Expectations are high for the Super Eagles B, who were runners-up at the 2018 edition of the tournament.
Chelle officially began his duties this week as the team opened camp at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ogun State. His challenge will be to quickly instill his tactical identity and build chemistry within the squad before the tournament kicks off in August across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Nigeria's opening two group matches against Senegal and Sudan will be staged at the Amman Stadium on Zanzibar Island, with the final group game against Congo scheduled for the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Despite the late change, the NFF is hopeful that Chelle's experience and fresh perspective will galvanize the team, who are aiming to go one better this time and lift the CHAN trophy for the first time in their history.
