Super Falcons' late heroics and North African standoff ignite WAFCON

Ihezuo's Last-Gasp Strike Sends Super Falcons Through Against Brave Botswana

At Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Nigeria's Super Falcons edged Botswana 1-0 with a late goal from substitute Chinwendu Ihezuo in the 89th minute.

Esther Okoronkwo's low cross found Ihezuo, who slotted home her second tournament goal to break The Mares' stubborn resistance.

Botswana's goalkeeper Sedilame Boseja shone, denying Jennifer Echegini and Ihezuo with stunning saves, but Nigeria's persistence paid off.

The nine-time champions, unbeaten in their last four WAFCON group games with 10 goals scored and none conceded, leaned on Ashleigh Plumptre's precise crosses despite missed chances from Toni Payne.

This win, marking Nigeria's best defensive start since 1998, secures their knockout berth, while Botswana's fifth straight WAFCON loss highlighted their resilience.

Algeria and Tunisia Share Spoils in Tame North African Derby

Algeria and Tunisia battled to a 0-0 draw at Pere Jego Stadium, with neither side finding a breakthrough.

Algeria dominated with 70% possession, but their six shots on target lacked bite, as Ghoutia Karchouni's curled effort and Marine Dafeur's free-kick were comfortably saved by Tunisia's Soulaima Jebrani.

Tunisia, yet to score in the tournament, managed one shot on target and struggled to create chances. Algeria lead Group B with four points, while Tunisia's first point keeps them in contention.

With Nigeria facing Algeria and Botswana meeting Tunisia on Sunday, the race for the quarter-finals remains wide open.
