Betway Premiership: Wounded Orlando Pirates face tricky Polokwane City test
A wounded Orlando Pirates side return to domestic action on Wednesday night with a tricky Betway Premiership clash against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium.
Langerman last featured in the top-flight three years ago with the now-defunct Moroka Swallows, following a decorated spell with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Since then, he had stepped away from the professional scene, focusing on coaching at Sunrise FC in Limpopo's ABC Motsepe League, where he served as player-coach.
It was during this time that Mphahlele noticed Langerman's impact—both as a leader and as a player.
"He approached me in Lephalale after seeing how my team played. He even signed two of my players," Langerman told iDiski Times.
"He asked me to join Baroka, but I said no. I was ready to retire and focus on coaching and other things in Johannesburg."
But the chairman's belief didn't fade. A month after Langerman returned to Gauteng, Mphahlele called again—this time, with more intent.
"I thought, 'That man again'," Langerman chuckled. "But because he asked a second time, I realized he saw something in me that maybe I didn’t. That gave me a new sense of purpose."
Now signed with Baroka in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Langerman is embracing the unexpected turn in his career—not for glory, but because someone believed he still had more to give.
"Sometimes, it takes someone else to remind you of your value," he said.
