Marumo Gallants crush Stellenbosch to reach Carling Knockout semifinals
Marumo Gallants stormed into the Carling Knockout Cup semifinals with a dominant 4–0 victory over Stellenbosch FC on a rainy Wednesday night at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium.

Both sides enter the quarterfinals on the back of stunning victories over South African giants, with Gallants eliminating Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch edging Kaizer Chiefs in dramatic penalty shootouts.
Stellenbosch, coached by Steve Barker, have found form after a slow start, claiming a 1–0 win over Kaizer Chiefs and a 4–1 aggregate triumph over Angola's 15 de Agosto to secure CAF Confederation Cup group stage qualification.
Their recent 4–3 league victory over Golden Arrows suggests their scoring struggles are over.
Barker, however, warned against complacency: "In cup games, it's all or nothing. Once you lose, you're out. We have to get the job done so we can move on and focus on the other competitions." Stellies will be without suspended midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi but are expected to field a strong lineup.
Gallants, under Alexandre Lafitte, have bounced back from a winless streak to upset Sundowns and beat Chippa United 2–1.
Midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo outlined their strategy: "We know Stellenbosch aren't a possession-based team; they like to play on transition. Our plan is to control the midfield, dominate the ball, and take advantage when the right moments come. We studied their CAF match and know what to expect."
Historically, Stellenbosch have held the upper hand, but Gallants' preparation and extra rest make this a compelling contest. The winner will join Golden Arrows, Richards Bay, and Orlando Pirates in the semifinals. With both teams in good form and aware that a single moment could decide the match, Wednesday's quarterfinal promises tension, tactical battles, and potential late drama.
