Injuries to Liam Delap, Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia test Chelsea's unbeaten run

Enzo Maresca's side have impressed with their attacking play, led by new signing Joao Pedro, who has delivered four goal contributions in his first three games since joining from Brighton.

The likes of Estevao and Jamie Gittens have also caught the eye, offering signs that they can bring extra creativity and flair to the squad. But while results on the pitch have been encouraging, injuries are already proving to be a concern for the Blues.

Cole Palmer, who played a central role in last season's campaign, has missed the last two matches after a groin problem was discovered ahead of the 5-1 victory over West Ham. He was left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the international break and has yet to resume training at Cobham.

Maresca has said Palmer's recovery is being managed "day by day," raising hopes the injury may not be as severe as first feared. Groin strains vary in severity, but the 22-year-old could be back after the break, with crucial fixtures against Brentford, Bayern Munich and Manchester United on the horizon.

Liam Delap has also been sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Fulham. The summer signing faces six to eight weeks out, which may rule him out until mid-October at the earliest. His absence is a setback to his England ambitions and leaves added responsibility on Pedro during a demanding run of matches.

Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia is edging closer to a return from a muscle injury. The Belgian midfielder, who has endured a difficult spell with fitness since arriving from Southampton, is expected to rejoin the squad later this month.

The Brentford match on 13 September may come too soon, but the home clash with Brighton looks a realistic target.

Chelsea will hope their injured stars return swiftly to maintain the momentum that has been built during an unbeaten start to the season.
