Jeremie Frimpong lands, Ederson looms: Liverpool launch ambitious summer haul

The Reds have wasted no time in reshaping their squad, and football experts believe more big moves are on the horizon as they aim to defend their Premier League crown and chase Champions League glory under manager Arne Slot.

Frimpong, in his first interview as a Liverpool player, expressed his determination to make the move happen. "I was fully committed to getting this deal done," he said. "I'm thrilled to join Liverpool and work with Arne Slot to achieve great things." The Dutch defender's arrival signals the Reds' intent to bolster their backline with pace and flair.

While Liverpool have not traditionally splashed cash recklessly, they have shown a willingness to make bold moves when the moment demands it. After a relatively quiet 2024 transfer window, the Reds are now prepared to hand Slot a formidable squad for the 2025-26 season.

According to reports from Tutto Atalanta, Liverpool have surged into the race for Atalanta's standout central midfielder Ederson, challenging Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Barcelona for his signature.

The Reds have initiated contact with the Serie A club to explore a potential deal. Although Ederson has not publicly stated a desire to leave, sources suggest he has been reluctant to extend his contract, which runs until June 2027.

Atalanta, aware of the ticking clock, are poised to cash in this summer to maximize their return on the Brazilian, whom they signed from Salernitana for approximately 23 million euros in July 2022. The Italian side are expected to demand around 60 million euros for the 25-year-old.

Ederson's versatility in midfield, capable of anchoring as a defensive midfielder or pushing forward as a No. 8, makes him an ideal fit for Slot's system. Former Italy manager Fabio Capello once hailed him as an "out of this world" talent, while Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has reportedly endorsed a move for the player.

However, Liverpool have now emerged as strong contenders, especially after missing out on Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi last summer. The Reds can offer Ederson the chance to compete for silverware and shine in the Champions League, a stark contrast to Manchester United, who have no European football to offer following their Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds' ambitions don't stop there. Liverpool are closing in on Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, with reports indicating they have raised their bid to 130 million euros to secure the attacking midfielder as their new No. 10. Wirtz, who rejected Bayern Munich, appears set to join the Merseyside club in a blockbuster move.

Sporting director Richard Hughes is also eyeing a raid on his former club Bournemouth, with left-back Milos Kerkez emerging as a prime target, according to multiple sources.

Kerkez has impressed Liverpool scouts and could challenge Andy Robertson for a starting role next season. The Daily Mail's Lewis Steele reported that the Reds have additional plans to strengthen their squad, targeting a new centre-back and a striker to follow the arrivals of Frimpong, Wirtz, and Kerkez. Liverpool have held discussions for a centre-forward valued at 84 million euros, though Chelsea are also in the hunt.

In a recent update on X, Liverpool confirmed Frimpong's signing, with the club posting: "We're delighted to welcome Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool! The journey begins!"

Meanwhile, a post from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X highlighted progress in the Kerkez deal, stating: "Liverpool are completing an agreement on personal terms with Milos Kerkez, who is KEEN on the move. Negotiations underway between clubs on transfer fee."

With these moves, Liverpool are sending a clear message: they are ready to build a squad capable of dominating at home and in Europe. Football fans across the globe will be watching closely as the Reds' summer overhaul takes shape.
