Kaizer Chiefs continue winless run as Stellenbosch beat Golden Arrows in thriller

Kaizer Chiefs played to a 0-0 draw against Siwelele FC at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening to extend their winless streak to four matches in the league.

The visitors started brightly forcing Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen to make a save following a corner in the 3rd minute of the game.

Amakhosi seemed to take control of proceedings thereafter with Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi's shots blocked in the tenth minute but survived a scare as Petersen made a great save to deny Siwelele the opener.

Vilakazi and Reeve Frosler came close to opening the score but failed to hit the target as the sides went into half time goalless.

Chiefs began the second half brightly, dominating possession but could not breach the visitors defence despite Frosler and substitute Glody Lilepo coming closest to breaking the deadlock.

The result sees the Soweto Giants climb one spot into fourth position on the league table while Siwelele FC remain in 15th.

Meanwhile at Athlone Stadium, Stellenbosch managed to win 4-3 against Golden Arrows in a thrilling encounter between the two coastal sides.

Stellies took the lead through Langelihle Phili in the 14th after a counter-attack that had followed a miss from Golden Arrows' Nhlanhla Zwane just a minute earlier.

Both teams continued their frenzied counter attacking football with Arrows drawing level in the 43rd minute through the impressive Siyanda Mthanti to take the match to half time at 1-1.

Andre de Jong rose high to put the home side in the lead four minutes into the second half before Sede Dion levelled the score in the 54th minute.

Misses from both sides followed before de Jong netted his second of the match in the 61st minute, however Arrows persisted in attack and found a third equalizer through Isaac Cisse after a Mthanti cross.

Stellenbosch had the last laugh when substitute Muzomuhle Khanyi slotted in the winner in the 76th minute to seal the three points, moving Stellies up to 13th with Abafana Bes'thende remaining in ninth spot.
