Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala urged to prove himself

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala urged to prove himself

Shabalala started last weekend as Chiefs returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Durban City FC at FNB Stadium, courtesy of a stunning strike from Glody Lilepo.

While the result was a positive boost, Khanye believes Shabalala must seize opportunities and contribute more consistently to the team.

"Plenty of wrong decisions, I'm talking about Mdu. If you can't perform like Mdu, this is the right time when you have to raise your hand, boy. Because once they bring quality players, you're not going to play," Khanye told iDiski TV.

"I mean this boy, how many chances does he need? He graduated from development. He ate football, slept football and woke up football. He's from development, so there are no excuses from him. His decision-making, taking on other players, should be better than other players, his teammates."

Shabalala, 22, was promoted to Chiefs' first team in 2022 after impressing in the club's DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), with expectations of a smooth transition to a key role.

However, inconsistent form has delayed his rise, leaving him under pressure to demonstrate his ability and fulfil the potential he showed as a standout talent in the development system.

With Chiefs now pushing to climb the league standings and secure a CAF competition spot, Shabalala has an opportunity to solidify his place in the squad.

Strong performances could not only make him an indispensable player for Amakhosi but also put him back on the radar for a potential Bafana Bafana call-up, turning his early promise into tangible success at both club and national level.
