Khalil Ben Youssef explains why Nasreddine Nabi left Kaizer Chiefs

Nabi left Naturena in October 2025 after only six league matches of the 2025/26 campaign. His position had been the subject of intense scrutiny amid questions surrounding the expiry of his CAF coaching credentials.

The Tunisian nevertheless departed after delivering a major achievement, having guided Chiefs to the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup and ended the club's 10-year wait for a major trophy.

His farewell message subsequently attracted attention after he thanked club management, video analysts and fitness trainers but did not acknowledge his direct technical assistants, including Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

The pair were subsequently appointed as co-coaches and took charge for the remainder of the season. They led Chiefs to 54 points in the Betway Premiership, the club's second-highest league tally across the previous 11 years.

Chiefs also reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stage but were eliminated on goal difference before finishing third in the domestic league.

"The situation, it was a misunderstanding between Nabi and the board," Ben Youssef said on SuperSportTV's Giants.

"It was his decision [to leave]. He said 'I want to go, I don't want to stay.' Inside [the club] everyone knows what the story is and what the reality is inside.

"Because at the end of the day, you came here for a job, to succeed. You don't come to make problems and make stories."
