Mikel Arteta shuts down contract talk as Arsenal focus on Bournemouth clash

Reports suggested early discussions over an extension had been positive, with Arteta's current deal running until the end of next season. But the Arsenal boss made it clear that now is not the time for negotiations.

"There is no news on that. We don't have time to discuss that now," Arteta said. "The full focus is on what we have to do from here until the end of the season."

Arsenal remain in a strong position domestically and in Europe despite recent setbacks. Defeats to Manchester City in the League Cup final and Southampton FC in the FA Cup ended hopes of a quadruple, but Arteta's side responded with a disciplined 1-0 win over Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

In the league, Arsenal sit top with 70 points from 31 matches, nine clear of Manchester City, putting them firmly on course for a first Premier League title in 22 years.

Arteta underlined his commitment to the club amid the speculation. "I am fully committed here. I am really happy and I feel good. My family's good. I still have so much ambition and things to do at this club," he added.

There was also a boost on the injury front, with Eberechi Eze returning to training and set to be available this weekend. However, key players including Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Piero Hincapie, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber remain sidelined.

Looking ahead to Bournemouth, Arteta praised opposing manager Andoni Iraola for his impact this season.

"It's amazing what he's done together with the club," Arteta said. "The consistency they have shown and the manner they've done it, with the number of players they've sold, they have reinvented themselves."

With the title race entering its decisive stage, Arteta's message was clear - Arsenal's focus is fixed firmly on finishing the job.
