Nigeria determined to defend WAFCON title, says head coach Justin Madugu

The Super Falcons are in Group C at the continental showpiece currently underway in Morocco where they will face Egypt, Malawi and Zambia.

Nigeria claimed the 2024 edition with a 3-2 win over Morocco in the final.

They have won 10 out of 13 editions of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations since it began in 1998.

But speaking ahead of facing Malawi in their opening game on Tuesday, Madugu admits that every team they face will be up for the encounter.

"Now that we are champions, every other team will want to draw you down," head coach Justin Madugu told BBC Sport Africa

"It's not going to be easy. We are quite aware of that and we are going to be fully ready."

"Every country wants to beat Nigeria," added assistant coach Ann Chiejine. "That is why we must up our game by making sure we train harder.

"The last one was really exciting to watch. All the games were really good.

“I think this year it's going to be even bigger.”
