Oliver Glasner confirms Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi will be leaving in 2026

Oliver Glasner confirms Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi will be leaving in 2026

Guehi, who joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and has made over 160 appearances for the club, is entering the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park. He captained the side to a dramatic first-ever FA Cup triumph in May 2025.

Glasner told reporters: "I think Marc has already told us that he doesn't sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted [him] to stay. They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different,' and that's normal.

"And for us, it's how we can deal with this situation, what is the best way to get this next step done?"

Last month, Guehi came close to joining Liverpool for a fee of thirty-five million pounds, even undergoing a medical, before Palace withdrew at the eleventh hour because they could not secure a suitable replacement.

Glasner had described the prospective sale as "very, very risky," warning that losing his captain would leave a defensive void.

He also denied rumours that he threatened resignation over the matter. "I never threatened to leave the club, never," he said.

Guehi may be sold in January, if Palace opt to cash in before he walks away for free, or depart on a free transfer at season's end.

His next move could be overseas, since Guehi can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1.
