Orlando Pirates march into fifth consecutive MTN8 final

The Buccaneers completed a convincing 4-0 aggregate triumph after securing a narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium a week earlier.

The result keeps Pirates on course to make even more history in the Wafa Wafa tournament, with the Soweto giants now just one victory away from claiming their fifth consecutive MTN8 title.

Pirates entered the clash with confidence after already defeating Sekhukhune twice this season. They had beaten Babina Noko 1-0 in the first leg before following that up with a 2-0 victory in their Betway Premiership encounter earlier in the week.

The hosts immediately showed their intent, putting the Sekhukhune defence under pressure with a series of promising attacks. The visitors were eventually forced into an early change when Shaheed Kazeem, who had already been booked, was substituted in the 36th minute.

Pirates were rewarded for their pressure moments later when Yanela Mbuthuma launched a swift counter-attack and picked out Thapelo Mokobodi inside the box. Mokobodi made no mistake from close range to give the Buccaneers the lead in the 37th minute.

Sekhukhune had barely recovered when Pirates struck again two minutes later. Gamphani Lungu found the back of the net to make it 2-0 and give the hosts a commanding advantage heading into the interval.

Babina Noko returned from the break determined to fight their way back into the contest and created opportunities of their own. Sipho Chaine was forced into an important save around the hour mark to keep Pirates comfortably ahead after a threat from Siphesihle Mkhize

Sekhukhune came close again in the 70th minute when Bright Ndlovu found himself in a promising position, but Sbangani Zulu intervened to prevent the danger.

The visitors continued searching for a way through the Pirates defence, but the Buccaneers remained organised. Substitute Mpho Padime nearly added a third following a well-worked move, only for Toaster Nsabata to produce an excellent save.

Pirates eventually put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time. Kamogelo Sebelele produced a composed finish, beating Nsabata with a low shot to seal a comprehensive 3-0 victory and send the Buccaneers into another MTN8 final in style.
