Pep Guardiola hints at possible Jack Grealish Man City exit after squad omission

The victory secured City's place in next season's Champions League, but Grealish - a 100 million pound signing from Aston Villa in 2021 - played no part and was not even among the travelling group. The 29-year-old has started just seven Premier League matches this season, a notable decline in involvement following his key role in the club's treble-winning campaign last year.

Guardiola was candid when asked about the omission, suggesting the time may have come for Grealish to reassess his future.

"It was selection," Guardiola said. "The last two months, month and a half, there were five or six players at home every time and this time I decided for these guys. No more than that.

"Of course, Jack has to play. He's an unbelievable player who has to play football every three days. It didn't happen this season, and it didn't happen last season either.

"He needs to do it. With us, or in another place. That's a question for Jack, his agent, and the club."

Grealish has struggled with form and fitness this season, and the lack of minutes underlines a growing uncertainty over his role in Guardiola's plans moving forward. With the European Championship approaching, and competition fierce both at club and international level, the former Villa captain may be tempted by a move to reignite his career.

For City, the result in west London brought relief rather than celebration. After a stuttering mid-season run that derailed their title defence, a third-place finish ensures a 15th consecutive campaign in Europe's top competition.

"Today, qualification for the Champions League is like a title," Guardiola said. "It's a fact. We never gave up. To finish third is really nice. It's not perfect, but we will be in the Champions League next season. Today is a happy, happy day for all of us."

But for Grealish, the summer could bring big decisions - and possibly, a fresh start elsewhere.
