Real Madrid edge Juventus to maintain perfect Champions League start

Los Blancos began the match brightly, spending most of the first ten minutes in the Juventus half before the visitors forced Thibaut Courtois into making the first save from a Weston McKennie attempt.

Madrid midfielder Aurelin Tchouameni then went close to scoring with two headers as the home team started to assert their dominance against the Italian side.

However, the Serie A side was able to absorb the pressure from the Spanish giants, who were constantly threatening on set pieces but failed to score as the teams went into the break goalless.

Juventus pressed for a goal in the opening minutes of the second half, with lively Turkish star Kenan Yildiz threatening Madrid's defence before Dusan Vlahovic broke free to test Courtois with a low shot in the 49th minute.

In similar fashion to the first stanza, the home side began to take control of the tie, launching probing attacks and pinning Juve deep in their half. The pressure paid off as Jude Bellingham followed up a Vinicius Jr strike to score and open his goal account for the 2025/26 season.

Madrid were unlucky not to extend their lead as Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio pulled off a series of saves to keep his team in the match.

The Spanish team managed to maintain the slender lead despite late attempts from Juve's substitutes to level the scoreline.

Xabi Alonso's side have now won all three Champions League fixtures this season whilst Juventus are winless after playing two draws prior to the loss on Wednesday.
