Relebohile Mofokeng stays positive despite Soweto Derby setback

The result dealt a blow to the Buccaneers' Betway Premiership title ambitions, leaving them in second place with 59 points from 26 matches, five behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. With only a handful of games remaining, the dropped points could prove costly in the race for the title.

Despite the setback, Mofokeng remained optimistic and praised his teammates for their effort in one of South Africa's most demanding fixtures.

The young attacking midfielder believes Pirates showed enough determination and quality, even if they could not secure maximum points.

"It was a tough game against a very strong opponent. The Soweto Derby is always difficult, but I think the guys did very well. We managed to score, but they also got a goal. I think we can take the point," the Bafana Bafana international told OP TV.

"The game was tough. We tried everything we could - creating chances, defending well, and pushing to score because we want to win the league. We gave it our all, and we believe our best is always enough. We will continue working hard going forward."

Pirates will now turn their attention to their next assignment as they travel to Cape Town to face Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday.

With the title race still open, the Buccaneers know they cannot afford further slip-ups if they are to keep pace with Sundowns.
