Arsenal complete signing of England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of England international Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial 48.5 million pounds.
The Blues, who have already spent over 130 million pounds on new signings including Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens, are now keen to add the England international to their growing contingent of young talent. Rogers, 22, is valued at 80 million pounds or more by Villa following a standout season in the Premier League and Europe.
Rogers joined Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for just 15 million pounds but has seen his stock rise rapidly. He scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in the league last season and played a pivotal role in Villa's Champions League run, earning his first senior England caps along the way.
While Chelsea are serious about their interest, a direct swap involving Nicolas Jackson - who is admired by Villa manager Unai Emery - is not currently being considered. Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) mean both clubs would prefer to structure deals separately to maximise accounting advantages and regulatory compliance.
Villa are under particular financial pressure, having missed out on Champions League qualification. While they are reluctant to sell Rogers, the club may be forced to consider significant offers if they cannot generate funds through other player sales. The likes of Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez, and Leon Bailey are also seen as potential assets who could attract interest.
Unai Emery is open to reuniting with Jackson, whom he previously worked with at Villarreal, as Villa look to strengthen in the forward areas. However, any bid from Villa for Jackson is expected to prompt Chelsea to accelerate their pursuit of Rogers.
Both sides are navigating tight financial parameters, with Chelsea also needing to offload players to remain compliant with UEFA squad registration rules for next season's Champions League. That could complicate further signings until significant outgoings are confirmed.
At this stage, negotiations are ongoing, and while no formal bid has been submitted, all indications suggest the situation is expected to develop further into August.
Rogers remains under contract at Villa Park, but with growing interest and financial pressures mounting on both sides, his future could become one of the major transfer stories of the closing weeks of the window.
