Report: Liverpool's Darwin Nunez snubs Saudi move, eyes European future

The 25-year-old, who joined the Reds from Benfica in 2022 for 75 million euros, is reportedly ready to leave Anfield this summer but has set his sights on staying in European football.

Nunez's time at Liverpool has been a mixed bag. Despite high expectations after scoring 48 goals in 85 matches for Benfica, he has managed only 25 goals in 95 Premier League appearances for the Reds.

This season, under new manager Arne Slot, Nunez started just eight league games, contributing five goals as Liverpool stormed to the Premier League title.

His limited role has fueled speculation about his future, with Schira reporting that Liverpool are seeking around 55 million euros for the forward.

"Darwin Nunez has turned down Al Hilal's approaches," Schira posted on X. "Nunez's priority is staying in Europe." This decision comes after Al Hilal, fresh off missing out on Napoli's Victor Osimhen, targeted Nunez as part of their push to bolster their squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool are bracing for a busy transfer window. They have already secured right-back Jeremie Frimpong and are heavily linked with Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz.

However, outgoings are also on the horizon, with players like Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Ibrahima Konate, and Harvey Elliott facing uncertain futures.

Elliott, who made just 18 appearances last season, hinted at a potential exit, emphasizing his desire for regular playing time.

"I'm 22, going on 23 next season," Elliott said. "I don't want to waste years in my career. It's short, and I need to be playing to improve. I love Liverpool, the fans, and the team, but it's about what's best for my career."

Nunez's rejection of Al Hilal signals his intent to fight for a place at a top European club. Liverpool, meanwhile, are reportedly eyeing strikers like Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike to replace him, as they aim to strengthen their squad for another title challenge.

With the transfer window heating up, Nunez's next move will be one to watch.
