Report: Tottenham star Son Heung-min linked to MLS club Los Angeles FC

The 33-year-old South Korean has made over 450 appearances for Spurs since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, having also previously played for Hamburger SV.

A fan favourite and consistent performer for much of his Premier League career, Son's 2023/24 campaign saw a notable dip - scoring just seven goals in 30 appearances, his lowest tally and appearance count since his debut season. The drop in form has been attributed to a combination of injuries and significant squad turnover.

LAFC have emerged as strong contenders for his signature, engaging in discussions with Son's representatives. However, salary expectations remain a stumbling block, with the player reportedly seeking a figure well above the current threshold LAFC are willing to pay.

Under the MLS Designated Player Rule, clubs are permitted to sign up to three players whose wages exceed the league's salary cap, with a portion of these wages subsidised.

If signed, Son would almost certainly become one of the highest-paid players in MLS history, with his salary expected to reach the tens of millions of dollars.

LAFC's current top earner is Denis Bouanga, who earns $3.7 million annually. The club has also recently added marquee names such as Olivier Giroud and Cengiz Under.
