Steve Barker open to facing Kaizer Chiefs in CAF Confederation Cup group stage

Steve Barker open to facing Kaizer Chiefs in CAF Confederation Cup group stage

Stellies secured their place in the group phase for the second consecutive season after a commanding 4-1 victory over Equatorial Guinean side 15 de Agosto on Sunday.

With Chiefs also booking their spot in the group stages, there is a real possibility that the two South African clubs could be drawn in the same group — setting up a mouthwatering local showdown on the continental stage.

When asked about the potential clash, Barker admitted he wouldn't mind the matchup, highlighting the logistical benefit of reduced travel.

"Difficult one. In terms of traveling and knowing the opposition? Yes, I wouldn't mind having them in our group because that would mean one less travel," said the Stellies coach.

"So, in terms of that, I wouldn't mind having them in the group to answer you directly."

Stellenbosch enjoyed an impressive run-in last season's competition, reaching the semi-finals before bowing out narrowly.
