Sundowns and Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams hails Jayden Adams' lasting legacy

The Sundowns captain joined teammates, Adams' family, friends and members of the football fraternity at the Stellenbosch Town Hall to honour the life of the Bafana Bafana international, who passed away last Saturday.

As tributes continued to pour in, Williams reflected on Adams' remarkable achievements and the void his passing has left within both club and country. The cause of Adams' death has not yet been established, with police reportedly having opened an inquest.

Speaking directly to the grieving family, Williams offered his condolences while reminding them that Adams' influence stretched far beyond those closest to him.

"To the Adams family, my condolences to you because not only have you lost a son, a brother and father but you've also lost a global superstar," Williams said during the memorial service.

"Jayden's loss will leave a big gap to fill and it's massive shoes to replace. To the family, stick together, draw strength from one another and continue celebrating Jayden's life, career and successes."

Williams described Adams as a humble, respectful and soft-spoken individual whose personality contrasted with his fearless displays on the pitch.

"Jayden was very quiet and respectful. You would sometimes forget he was in the room, but his smile and laughter could light up any room that he was in. As quiet as he was, when it was time to fight, he never backed down. Jayden, for your contribution to South African football, thank you."

The Bafana Bafana captain also praised Adams for helping Sundowns win a second CAF Champions League title, representing the club at the FIFA Club World Cup and playing a key role in South Africa's AFCON bronze-medal campaign.

Closing his tribute, Williams promised that Adams would always remain part of the Sundowns family.

"We will miss your quality, passes, vision and brotherhood. We will carry you in our hearts, carry you on this badge and continue to keep your legacy alive. You will forever remain part of us."
