The 35-year-old former Bafana Bafana captain is currently without a club following the expiry of his contract with SuperSport United - recently renamed Siwelele FC - at the end of last month.
According to iDiski Times sources, talks between Hlatshwayo and Durban City are at an advanced stage, with both parties keen to finalise the deal in the coming days.
Should the move materialise, it would see Hlatshwayo reunite with head coach Gavin Hunt for a third time. The duo enjoyed a successful spell together at Bidvest Wits, where they lifted the league title in 2017. They later reunited at SuperSport United, and now look set to continue their strong professional relationship in KwaZulu-Natal.
Hlatshwayo, affectionately known as "Tyson," is one of the most experienced defenders in South African football. Over a professional career spanning more than a decade, he has made 412 appearances in the Premier Soccer League, scoring 25 goals and providing nine assists. Beyond the numbers, he’s renowned for his leadership, discipline, and organisational skills in defence.
For newly promoted Durban City, his experience could be invaluable as they prepare for life in the top flight. With the club aiming to make a strong impression in their debut Premiership campaign, signing a seasoned campaigner like Hlatshwayo would signal their intent to compete at the highest level.
An official announcement is expected soon, with Durban City likely to unveil the former Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates man before the end of the month.
