Magesi release 10 players after Owen Da Gama exit

Dikwena tsa Meetse only just confirmed the exit of head coach Owen Da Gama and have now moved to refresh their playing staff.

Leaving the club are Gift Motupa, Neverdie Makhubela, Deolin Mekoa, Rhulani Manzini, Amos Mokwena, Boikanyo Komane, Maboke Matlakala, Anathi Ngwadla, Given Mashikinya and Menzi Ndwandwe.

A club statement read: "Magesi thanks the abovementioned individuals for their contribution and wishes them all the best in their respective endeavours.

"Further structural changes in preparation for the upcoming season will be announced in due course."

Da Gama, meanwhile, explained that his departure came after being unable to agree to terms with Magesi over a new contract, despite guiding the team from a relegation battle to a highly commendable 13th placed finish at the end of last season.

He told Kickoff: "Yes, I have parted ways with Magesi. Our separation is not about money; we simply couldn't agree on certain terms."

The club added on their website: "Magesi Football Club confirms the departure of Owen Da Gama, who served as head coach.

"Mr. Da Gama leaves Dikwena Tša Meetse following a six-month spell in charge. He joined the club on 30 December 2024 and guided the team in 19 matches in the Betway Premiership; seven [7] wins, five [5] draws and seven [7] defeats.

"With ODG at the helm, the team ended the 2024/25 season in 13th place, retaining our top-flight status.

"He was named the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month for March during his time with the club.

"Magesi FC would like to thank Mr. Da Gama for his work with the team and to wish him well in his future endeavours."
