Sven Botman injury adds to Newcastle's pre-season woes
Newcastle defender Sven Botman has been ruled out of Wednesday's pre-season friendly against Team K-League in Suwon due to a groin injury sustained against Arsenal on Sunday.
The 22-year-old forward, currently playing for RB Leipzig, is valued at 70 million pounds.
Since joining Leipzig from RB Salzburg in 2023, Sesko has made 87 appearances for the German side, including outings in the UEFA Champions League. He has also been a regular feature for Slovenia at international level, earning 41 caps to date.
Newcastle United have been engaged in talks with the player and are reportedly close to securing a verbal agreement. However, Manchester United have now entered the race, hoping to hijack the Magpies' move by holding discussions with Sesko's representatives.
With both clubs eager to bolster their attacking options, the final decision is expected to rest with Sesko and his agents.
Manchester United have already made attacking reinforcements this summer, signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined total of 133.5 million pounds.
Yet, their interest in Sesko suggests manager Ruben Amorim is still looking to further strengthen his frontline ahead of the new campaign.
Sesko's proven track record in both domestic and European competition, combined with his age and international pedigree, make him a highly coveted target this transfer window.
