Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller joins Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS move

The 35-year-old, who lifted 13 Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, is set to bring his trademark flair to North America.

Muller expressed his ambition for the move, stating, "I'm thrilled to join Vancouver Whitecaps and help them win a championship. I've heard fantastic things about the city, but my focus is on winning.

"After great talks with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sorensen, I'm eager to play at BC Place and ignite the fans as we push for the playoffs."

The Whitecaps confirmed Muller's arrival on a short-term deal through 2025, with an option to become a designated player in 2026. However, fans will need to wait until mid-to-late August to see the "Raumdeuter" in action, as he finalizes personal sponsorship details while training with Bayern Munich.

A recent X post from the Whitecaps' official account hyped the signing, sharing a clip of Muller donning the No. 13 jersey, his number from his Germany days, and captioned, "A legend arrives! Thomas Muller is ready to make history with us. #VWFC."

Axel Schuster, Whitecaps CEO and sporting director, hailed the transfer as a game-changer. "Thomas is a world-class talent, the ultimate ‘space interpreter,' with unmatched chance creation and spatial awareness," Schuster said.

"His work ethic and leadership will elevate our squad. This signing marks a defining moment for our club, our fans, and Vancouver."

Muller's move follows in the footsteps of former Bayern teammate Alphonso Davies, who rose to stardom with the Whitecaps before joining the Bundesliga giants. The German's knack for finding space and relentless drive are expected to galvanize the Whitecaps as they aim for MLS Cup glory.

With the playoffs looming, Muller's arrival signals the Whitecaps' intent to compete at the highest level, blending his winning pedigree with their ambitious vision.
