Marumo Gallants begin their 2025/26 Betway Premiership with a tricky challenge against Richards Bay in Durban, having failed to beat them in four previous league encounters.

Three days later Bahlabane Ba Ntwa will host last season's league runners-up Orlando Pirates, a team they handed a shock 2-0 defeat to in their last league match.

Another tough battle follows in KwaZulu-Natal against a new look AmaZulu side before travelling down the coastline to face the highly competitive and dangerous Stellenbosch.

The team ends the month of August with a fixture at home against Polokwane City, who Gallants failed to defeat in the league last season.

The club opted against renewing the contracts of nine players during the off-season including Gabadinho Mhango, Daniel Akpeyi, Kamohelo Mahlatsi and striker Dino Ndlovu, who had joined the club on a short-term deal last season.

However, Gallants soon announced Frenchman Lafitte Alexandre as the club's new head coach for the 2025/26 season following the resignation of Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has since joined Orlando Pirates.

The Bloemfontein based team also signed and promoted a total of ten players, with former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch midfielder Darrel Matsheke headlining the raft of relatively unknown prospects.

"I think the project is about improving the team," said the coach at the 2025/26 Betway Premiership media launch.

"It's important to have a good start for the first game and for me it's important to improve the mindset of this team and I think it's possible to do good things with this team."
