Following their CAF Champions League exit at the hands of Egyptian side Pyramids FC last Friday, Pirates now shift focus back to domestic matters, with a key fixture against Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite trailing Sundowns in the title race and needing other teams to halt the defending champions, Vilakazi is confident the Buccaneers can win all their remaining matches and capitalise on what he sees as a dip in Sundowns' form.
"Pirates have what it takes to win this league. It's still open for them. They've gained massive experience from the Champions League, and I see them winning all their remaining games," Vilakazi told the Sowetan.
Vilakazi also expressed doubts over Sundowns' ability to maintain their grip on the top spot.
"I fear Sundowns will slip up... they don't look dangerous these days. Even against Al Ahly in the second leg, they needed an own goal to go through. I really think they'll drop points and Pirates will catch them," he added.
With the title race heating up and Pirates pushing to end Sundowns' long-standing dominance, the coming fixtures could prove decisive.
