Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac rallies behind Serhou Guirassy to end goal drought

Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac rallies behind Serhou Guirassy to end goal drought

Guirassy, who made a blistering start to the season with goals in each of the opening three Bundesliga matchdays, including two in a 3-0 win over Union Berlin on Matchday 2, has scored just once in Dortmund's last seven matches across all competitions, with his most recent Bundesliga goal coming in the 2-0 win over Heidenheim on 13 September.

Despite the dip, Kovac has said he remains fully confident in the Guinean forward's ability to turn things around.

"Of course, I see that he isn't scoring at the moment. But I also see how hard he's working and that he gives everything," Kovac said ahead of Dortmund's DFB-Pokal clash away to Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday night.

"In a striker's life, it sometimes happens that you miss chances you would normally score. He is our leader in attack, he initiates everything up front. I fully support him."

The Dortmund boss hinted that Guirassy could be given a brief rest if needed, suggesting rotation might come into play over the coming fixtures. "Of course, it's possible that Serhou gets a short creative pause. But I still have some time to think about tomorrow's game and the matches ahead," Kovac added, insisting there "won't be major changes" for the trip to Frankfurt.

Guirassy's struggles come as Dortmund continue to chase consistency in both domestic and European competition. Kovac, though, believes patience and support are key to helping his main striker regain confidence.

Meanwhile, Emre Can and Julien Duranville remain Dortmund's only long-term absentees, with Duranville recently resuming partial training from a shoulder injury and both expected to return after the international break in mid-November.

"But no pressure: we want players who are 100 percent healthy and fit," Kovac emphasised.
