According to Modern Ghana, Swedish tactician is set to take charge of the Black Stars on an interim basis as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) continues its search for a permanent replacement for Carlos Queiroz.
Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram are also expected to form part of the interim technical team as Ghana prepare for two important fixtures that could shape their qualification hopes.
The anticipated appointment comes after the Black Stars endured a difficult start to their Group C campaign, losing their opening two matches and leaving themselves under pressure to collect maximum points against Somalia.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in Bouake before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. The results left them without a point and raised concerns about their prospects of reaching the tournament.
Queiroz and the GFA subsequently agreed to terminate his contract on October 1, less than a month after he took charge of the national team for the qualifiers.
With the November international window approaching, the association has opted to establish an interim technical structure while continuing its recruitment process.
The GFA, working alongside the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, confirmed that an interim team would oversee the Black Stars during the upcoming fixtures.
Meanwhile, the five-member search committee chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe is continuing its assessment of candidates for the permanent position. The application deadline was extended to October 15 to allow for a more comprehensive recruitment process.
The committee is expected to conduct further evaluations and interviews throughout October and November before submitting its final recommendation.
For Ghana, the immediate priority will be to recover from their opening defeats and get their qualifying campaign back on track.
The Black Stars will be eager to secure positive results against Somalia as they attempt to avoid missing consecutive editions of the continental tournament.
