Ivory Coast part way with AFCON winning coach Emerse Fae

Fae's tenure will be remembered for one of the most remarkable triumphs in African football history.

He guided the Elephants to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title on home soil after taking over on an interim basis midway through the tournament following the dismissal of French coach Jean-Louis Gasset during the group stage.

Against the odds, Fae inspired Ivory Coast to a dramatic turnaround, culminating in a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final to secure the country's third AFCON crown. His success earned him the head coach role on a permanent basis.

The former midfielder also led the Elephants to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the knockout stage for the first time before their campaign ended with a last-32 defeat to Norway.

In its statement, the FIF paid tribute to Fae's contribution, saying the progress made and achievements recorded under his leadership would remain "an important part of the recent history of Ivorian football."

The federation added that it will announce Fae's successor in due course.
