Liverpool and Newcastle set to battle for Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike

The Premier League champions had shown strong interest in Newcastle's Alexander Isak earlier in the summer, but sources on Merseyside insist no formal contact was made regarding the Swedish international.

Reports suggesting any negotiations between the two clubs have also been firmly disputed.

Newcastle, for their part, have made it clear they have no intention of selling Isak, who they value at a minimum of 150 million pounds. That valuation has effectively ruled out any potential move, with Liverpool now shifting focus to alternative targets.

Ekitike has emerged as the prime candidate, with Liverpool believed to be exploring his availability and price. The 22-year-old has impressed at Frankfurt, attracting interest from several top European clubs.

Newcastle themselves had a club-record bid for the Frenchman rejected within the last 24 hours, underlining the level of competition for his services.

Liverpool have been actively scouting centre-forward options throughout the summer, aiming to add depth and dynamism to their frontline.

While no offer has yet been lodged for Ekitike, the Reds appear ready to move quickly as the transfer window progresses.
