Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso: We need as many points as possible, as quickly as possible

The Brazilians will play Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the showpiece of the continental competition after seeing off giants Al Ahly over two legs in their semi-final.

While they have been knocked out of the Neddbank Cup, the Tshwane team are leading the South African top-flight standings by nine points ahead of Orlando Pirates, who have two games in hand.

Sundowns Richards Bay at Loftus on Wednesday, Cape Town City away on Saturday and Magesi at home, ahead of their final showdown on 24 May.

Cardoso said in the Citizen: "That's what we need to do, approach the next matches we have with ambition, and try to get as many points as possible, as quickly as possible."

The coach added though that his side won't have it easy as they play a number of games in quick succession.

"Surprisingly, our match day on Sunday (against City) has been brought forward to Saturday," he continued.

"Now we have a match on Wednesday, Saturday and then again on Wednesday. It's important that South African football, and the heads of the sport understand that this club has been fighting for years, defending the identity of the country, in Africa and abroad.

“This should be respected. But difficulties make us stronger, and that's how we are going to fight for the championship until the end.”
