Miguel Cardoso commends Teboho Mokoena, welcomes squad depth boost

Mokoena delivered a commanding performance in midfield, dictating the tempo as Sundowns opened up a five-point lead over Orlando Pirates in the race for the Betway Premiership title.

Goals from Iqraam Rayners, Tashreeq Matthews and Nuno Santos sealed the result, but it was Mokoena who drew special praise from Cardoso, who described him as a key figure in the squad.

"He is a pillar, very important asset for the club and the team," Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the game.

"He is a player we understand where he stands, we manage him according to what he needs and we give love to everybody, but also give love to him of course."

Cardoso also highlighted the importance of squad management, expressing satisfaction at giving Sphelele Mkhulise valuable minutes in the second half.

"Mostly, here and there I wanted to spare some energy but also give game-time to players that didn't play recently, and it was important to manage.

"It's always important to manage the context," he added.

Reflecting on the squad depth, Cardoso pointed to the return of key players and the contribution of others within the team.

"Every match has a context. But we secured the result, that's what's important. So, very happy because we saw Pitso (Mkhulise), for example, sometimes he is not playing," he said.

"He has done very well, it's good to have Brayan Leon back and Nuno Santos.

Look, we coaches can do a great job, but who does the great job it's the players, and the more availability of quality you have, the better coach you are."

The Brazilians are now sitting at the summit of the log with 64 points, while the Buccaneers are on 59 points.
