Noussair Mazraoui fitness boost for Morocco ahead of Brazil FIFA World Cup clash

Noussair Mazraoui fitness boost for Morocco ahead of Brazil FIFA World Cup clash

The 27-year-old suffered a shoulder injury during Morocco's recent friendly against Norway, raising concerns that he could miss the start of the tournament. However, the defender has responded well after taking part in gym-based recovery work and has now rejoined full training with the Atlas Lions squad.

Morocco's medical staff have closely monitored Mazraoui's condition, and he is now in contention to feature in the highly anticipated Group C encounter against Brazil at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The potential return of Mazraoui comes as welcome news for head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, whose side face a challenging group that also includes Scotland and Haiti.

While Mazraoui's recovery has been positive, Morocco have suffered setbacks elsewhere in the squad. West Ham United centre-back Nayef Aguerd and Real Betis winger Abdessamad Ezzalzouli have both been ruled out of the tournament through injury.

Aguerd had been training with the squad but has continued to struggle with an ongoing fitness problem. Ezzalzouli was forced off during the friendly against Norway, and subsequent examinations confirmed a knee ligament sprain.

As a result, FIFA confirmed that Marwane Saadane of Al-Fateh and Angers forward Amine Sbai have been called up as replacements.

Morocco will be eager to start their World Cup campaign strongly against one of the tournament favourites. Brazil are expected to field a star-studded side that includes former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro and striker Matheus Cunha.
