Report: AC Milan plan contract talks with Alexis Saelemaekers amid transfer buzz

The 26-year-old Belgian winger, who shone during a loan spell at Roma last season, has returned to the Rossoneri with a clear goal: to claim a starring role under new coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Saelemaekers made an impact at Roma in the 2024-25 campaign, becoming a key figure under Claudio Ranieri. He contributed seven goals and seven assists in 32 appearances, showcasing his versatility as a wing-back and attacker.

Roma pushed to make the move permanent, but Milan opted to bring him back to San Siro, where his contract runs until June 2027. "I'm here now to stay," Saelemaekers said on Milan TV during pre-season. "I'm happy to be back, I missed this place. Now it's time to do something great this year."

His return has sparked excitement, with Allegri praising the player's adaptability. "Alexis is a player every coach loves to have," Allegri has said, noting his ability to play on either flank, attack spaces, and contribute defensively.

Milan are now preparing to open talks for a contract extension in the coming weeks, aiming to reward his commitment and performances.

Despite interest from Premier League sides Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, as well as Juventus, who considered a swap deal involving Dusan Vlahovic, Milan have no intention of letting Saelemaekers go.

Saelemaekers, who joined Milan from Anderlecht in 2020 for 10.9 million euros, has already won a Serie A title with the Rossoneri in 2021-22. With 141 appearances, 10 goals, and 14 assists for the club, he's determined to build on that legacy.

"The most important thing for me is to find a project where I can continue to grow," he said at a Belgium national team press conference. "Staying at Milan is an option I like."

As Milan gear up for the 2025-26 season, Saelemaekers' blend of energy, versatility, and experience makes him a cornerstone of Allegri's plans. Fans can expect the Belgian to play a pivotal role as the Rossoneri aim to challenge for silverware.
