Tony Pulis poised for Zamalek sporting director role amid club overhaul

He arrived in Egypt to explore a possible appointment as the club's new sporting director.

The high-profile visit was confirmed by former Zamalek president Mamdouh Abbas and club icon Ahmed Hossam "Mido," a key member of the club's planning committee, Kingfut.com reported.

Pulis, renowned for his extensive managerial career with English clubs such as Stoke City, Crystal Palace, and West Bromwich Albion, toured the club's facilities and is currently assessing its football infrastructure and long-term development potential.

In a statement posted on X, Abbas described Pulis as "one of the most prominent coaches in Premier League history" and emphasized that the visit is aimed at exposing the veteran coach to the sporting and structural challenges facing the Cairo-based giants.

"I will personally meet with Tony during his stay. This visit is about offering him a clear picture of where Zamalek stands and how global expertise can help restore the club to its former glory," said Abbas.

Abbas also extended gratitude to Mido for facilitating the visit, calling him instrumental in initiating the talks. Mido is reportedly finalizing an official proposal to submit to the Zamalek board of directors in the coming days to formally appoint Pulis as sporting director.

The potential appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Zamalek, who are undergoing a rebuild amid internal instability and inconsistent on-pitch performances. Club officials see Pulis as a figure who can bring discipline, strategic clarity, and a modernized footballing philosophy to the club's operations.

Should he accept the role, Pulis would be tasked with overseeing first-team operations, streamlining training methodologies, and revamping the youth development pipeline - a cornerstone of Zamalek's long-term ambitions.

The club hopes that tapping into Pulis's extensive experience in English football can help set a new benchmark for professionalism, recruitment, and player development across all levels.
