Yannick Ferrera tasked with restoring Zamalek SC's lost spark
Zamalek SC have ushered in a new era with the appointment of Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera, signalling a strategic shift aimed at revitalising the club's football identity.
The Belgian tactician made the statement after Zamalek edged to a narrow victory in their Egyptian Premier League clash, but it was his post-match press conference that stole the spotlight.
When asked why Jaziri was missing from the squad, Ferrera was blunt.
"You will not see Jaziri with me, and you will know the reason later," he said, offering no further details but making it clear the 32-year-old's time at the club may be running out, Kingfut.com wrote.
Instead, Ferrera highlighted the contribution of new signing Oday Dabbagh, praising the Palestinian striker's readiness to lead the line.
"He is physically ready, and that is why he is starting," the coach explained.
Ferrera also dismissed talk of league standings and comparisons with rivals.
"We don't care about the results of other teams. We have our own motivation, away from anything else," he declared.
Jaziri, who joined Zamalek in 2021, has now slipped firmly down the pecking order under Ferrera.
He has played just once this season, a late cameo in the White Knights' league opener, and his future in Cairo looks increasingly bleak.
