Cape Town City announce Simon van Duivenbooden capture
Cape Town City have announced the signing of Vitesse Arnhem striker Simon van Duivenbooden.
The appointment follows last term's relegation from the Premier Soccer League via the promotion/relegation playoffs.
The 59‑year‑old Dutch manager arrives as the Citizens aim to bounce back immediately to the top flight.
"A new era begins. Cape Town City is delighted to appoint Jan Vreman as the new Head Coach of the club. Welcome, Jan," the club announced through their social media platforms on Monday.
Vreman's appointment comes amid a substantial squad overhaul after relegation triggered the departures of stalwarts like Thami Mkhize and Thabo Nodada. The club is clearly rebuilding around fresh leadership and direction.
Vreman brings considerable experience to the role. Known as "Mister De Graafschap", he played for and coached De Graafschap in the Netherlands across various roles from youth coach to first-team manager.
Most recently, he managed De Graafschap from July 2023 until January 2025, a spell that highlights his capacity for leadership and player development.
While some critics question whether Vreman's CV - including a recent exit from De Graafschap midway through the season - equips him for the immediate challenge of promotion, City's leadership believes his European tactical acumen and long-term vision can guide the team back to the Betway Premiership.
With the Motsepe Foundation Championship now looming, all eyes will be on Vreman to build a winning squad, instil belief, and help Cape Town City reclaim their status among South African football's elite.
